SJVC’s Dental Hygiene program provides you with the solid academic and clinical skills necessary to secure licensure and take your place in the elite world of dental hygienists. Initially, training is classroom study and lectures, and clinical instruction is gradually introduced as students become more knowledgeable.

Hands-on instruction takes place in a state-of-the-art California clinic, which prepares you to practice as a competent Dental Hygienist.
Career Opportunities
Most well-trained dental hygienists will go to work in private dental offices and enjoy a high salary, flexible hours, a prestigious and professional work environment and solid job security. Others are interested in serving the community in public health agencies, clinics and nursing home facilities, as well as exploring opportunities in pharmaceutical or dental supply sales or education.
Certifications Earned
Graduates earn an Associate of Science degree and are eligible to take the National Board written examination and a State and/or Regional Board Examination for licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist.

Admissions Requirements
Dental Hygiene program applicants must complete all prerequisite courses with a minimum GPA of 2.75 or higher. In addition, the applicant must request Official Transcripts of all completed prerequisite course transcripts be sent to SJVC by the application deadline.
Applicants meeting program prerequisites and minimum requirements will be selected using points earned from: GPA on prerequisite courses, reading comprehension exam, allied health or related work experience and a personal interview.
